Course overview

At the University of Liverpool Online, you can pursue a range of different areas of public health. The online Public Health programmes are internationally recognised and respected for their commitment to the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Health for All principles.

Depending on your career ambitions, you can choose from the following tailored pathways to suit your needs.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

On this programme, you will explore the complexities of health and social systems, investigate options for strategy development, and evaluate potential programme interventions. Working closely with your peers in small groups, you will develop critical skills to assess challenges and opportunities from multiple stakeholder perspectives. Later in your studies, our international community at Liverpool Online provides a unique chance to gain diverse insights into global public health best practices.

Master of Public Health (MPH) – Global Health

If you are working in health promotion, policy development and evaluation, this MPH will enhance your existing knowledge and expertise while providing a basis for career development towards senior and managerial positions in the profession. The specialist focus on the impact communicable diseases and environmental hazards have on the health of populations globally is one of the key elements of this programme.

Master of Public Health (MPH) – Global Mental Health

You will investigate public health methodologies, evaluate diverse approaches, and examine the complexities of implementing psychosocial interventions in varied cultural and low-resource settings. Working in small groups, you will develop the skills to determine the most appropriate strategies from ethical, social, and economic perspectives.

Master of Public Health (MPH) – Health Economics and Policy

The programme’s specialist focus on current public health priorities in low-income countries explores the relationship between strategic health planning and policy formation. You will also critically evaluate governmental and market healthcare activities, and the behaviour of consumers and organisations in these healthcare markets. The knowledge you will gain will enable you to apply economic principles to health financing activities and mechanisms using different methods of economic evaluation.

Programme awards

You are required to complete 180 credits to achieve a full Master of Public Health (Online), 120 credits to achieve the postgraduate diploma (PGDip) and 65 credits to achieve the postgraduate certificate (PGCert).

If you do not currently meet our entry requirements, we offer a 15-credit standalone module, Practising and Promoting Public Health in a Global Context, that can provide a gateway to the Master of Public Health (Online) if completed successfully.
