The content of this programme is aligned with the body of knowledge of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA©) qualification and will equip you with the skills and competencies you will need to undertake the formal CFA© Level 1 examination. The University of Liverpool is an Affiliated University of the CFA Institute and, in recognition of the programme’s alignment to the CFA Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK), the online MSc Finance and Investment Management has been awarded affiliated status. Upon completion of the programme, you will have a good understanding of contemporary principles of finance and investment management and how these are applied to financial intermediation, savings, and investment. You will also gain an understanding of the practices of financial markets including the use of ‘state-of-the-art’ industry analytics.

Please note – CFA affiliated status only applies to the MSc award due to the number of study hours required of a programme by the CFA © to achieve this status. Students who enrol on a PG Certificate or PG Diploma and successfully complete their award will be eligible to progress towards the full MSc.

Teaching is delivered through our state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which provides students with access to all resources required for interactive study online. On this platform, you will be encouraged to work collaboratively with classmates and actively read around your topic through our comprehensive library of eBooks and journals.

Entry requirements

All applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you want to discuss your previous qualifications and experience before applying, please contact our admissions team. Applications would typically possess:

  • A minimum of a 2:2 class degree in any, equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree; or
  • A diploma or certificate in higher education with 3 years of relevant work experience; other prior qualifications and work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis

All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5. If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take our free online English test to assess your proficiency. You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of the countries we consider eligible. Assessment

Assessment is exclusively through online assignments rather than examinations. You will be assessed through a range of activities, including written assignments, discussion forum participation and journal entries.

Subjects

This programme consists of the following modules. You are required to complete 180 credits to achieve a full Master of Science (MSc), 120 credits to achieve the postgraduate diploma (PG Dip) and 60 credits to achieve the postgraduate certificate (PG Cert).

Payment options

Full tuition fee – £17,357* (£2025/2026 academic year)

The tuition fee is fully inclusive of all costs: teaching materials, core textbooks, assessments and resits. If you live in England, you may be eligible for a postgraduate loan to cover some of the costs of your degree. If you are not eligible for a student loan, you will be offered a simple monthly payment plan to spread the cost of your tuition over the duration of your studies.

Scholarships and Discounts

  • Regional Scholarships of up to 20%. To find out the scholarship offered in your region

  • 10% discount for University of Liverpool alumni

  • 5% discount for up-front full tuition fee payment

  • A UK Scholarship of 20% is available for students residing in the United Kingdom, who enrol on the May and July 2026 intake of our full master’s awards.

  • International students residing in specific regions outside the UK may be eligible for a regional scholarship of up to 20%.

A separate application form is not required for a scholarship, as it will be applied once you have received your official offer letter. Please note, scholarships cannot be combined but can be used alongside our Up-front Payment Discount.
